The Social Progress Imperative, a nonprofit based in Washington, DC, works to advance social progress across the world. We develop data insight tools that measure the true state of our society on issues that matter most: are people healthy and safe, do they live in an inclusive society, do they have access to education and more. Our flagship tool, the Social Progress Index, measures how well countries and communities convert their resources into social and environmental outcomes that improve people's lives. With our tools, we empower and equip decisionmakers, businesses, organizations, journalists, and individuals to identify areas of intervention and improve their communities.

Volunteer Podcast Production & Communications Intern

Get hands-on experience in producing a mission-driven podcast. You'll play a crucial role in transforming our long-form discussions into shareable, impactful content. This is a volunteer, remote position, offering flexible hours to fit your schedule.

Key Responsibilities

• Podcast post-production: Edit raw audio and video footage for our podcast episodes, ensuring high-quality and a smooth listening and viewing experience.
• Short-form content creation: Identify compelling moments within episodes to create dynamic social media reels and clips with viral potential (e.g., strong hooks, key takeaways).
• Content strategy and storytelling: Collaborate to identify interesting narratives, connect podcast themes to current events and news, and draft engaging copy for social media posts, episode descriptions, and blog posts.

Our remote Podcast Production internship offers a unique opportunity to directly shape compelling narratives on sustainable development from global experts. You'll develop a keen eye for effective storytelling and content strategy, learn to connect podcast insights to daily headlines, and thrive in a fast-paced, international team environment, all while gaining invaluable experience within the non-profit sector. Your ideas will be brought to life!

We will gladly sign off on the required hours for school credit, providing formal documentation of your volunteer time with us.

What we are looking for

• Current students or recent graduates in Communications, Media Studies, Journalism, Graphic Design, Film Production, Marketing or other related fields.
• Medium to advanced skills in Adobe Premiere Pro is essential (or demonstrable expertise in a similar editing tool like Da Vinci Resolve.) 
• Experience with graphic design tools like Canva. 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in Spanish or other languages is a plus but not mandatory.
• Strategic content creator: A creative mind with strong research skills, capable of identifying top media stories and social media trends to craft viral hooks and compelling narratives that resonate with current events.
• Commitment of no more than 15 hours per week for four months with the option to extend if desired. We value flexibility and are open to adjusting your schedule or hours as agreed during the interview.
