This week, we analyzed the relative annual performance of the United States across all components of the Global Social Progress Index.
The main outtake is that the composite Index has only achieved significant growth in two of the last twelve years, with its highest score being 83.52 in 2013 (18th in the global ranking). Since then, the score has plunged to 81.70 in 2023, to the 29th position worldwide.
This has not been evenly spread throughout all Dimensions, as while Basic Needs and Opportunity have also decreased, Foundations of Wellbeing has jumped from 77.95 in 2011 to 80.12 in 2023. However, this improvement has been undone in recent years, with all Dimensions worsening in 2022 and 2023.
If you get premium access to the Global Social Progress Index today, you’ll receive, in addition to the premium data and visualizations, a complete analysis of all 12 Components and 57 Indicators of the Index for the yearly evolution of the US.
